 Fructured Bond

Karya Kuni Tauriyatan

Sinopsis

In the shadows beneath Hogwarts, Evelyne Elowen finds a forgotten spell that consumed guilt and silence. She was sent to observe. Instead, she steps into it, because some forms of magic don’t bind to power, but to pain. And some bonds hold simply because no one else does.

The Room of Requirement did not open for everyone. And when it did, it never looked the same twice.

Tonight, it looked like regret.

The ceiling stretched far above, shadowed and endless, lit only by faint runes that flickered across the ancient floor — a circle pulsing slowly, like breath barely held. The magic felt older than the castle itself, quieter than grief.

Evelyne Elowen hadn’t come looking for it. But something had pulled her here anyway. The room had shaped itself around someone else's need. And that someone stood in the center of the circle.

Draco Malfoy.

He didn’t flinch when she entered. He only turned, slow and tired, as if he’d expected her eventually.

“I didn’t ask it to bring anyone else,” he said.

“I didn’t ask to be brought,” she replied.

There was no heat in the words. Just fact.

The circle between them wasn’t a prison. It was a tether. The kind of magic that fed not on power, but surrender.

“You could’ve asked for help,” Evelyne said.

His eyes barely moved. “Help wouldn’t know what to do with this.”

She stepped closer. The air changed as she neared the boundary — not resistance, but awareness. The spell saw her. Reached for her like a memory. She stopped just shy of the runes and knelt, resting her hand on the cold stone beside them.

The magic pulsed. Welcoming.

“You’re not trying to escape it,” she said quietly.

“No.” His voice was low. Honest. “It gives me something else.”

“What?”

“A place to fall apart… where no one notices.”

The silence after was thick. Charged. She didn’t break it. Instead, she let herself feel the room — not just the magic, but the intention that shaped it. This version of the Room had not been summoned for safety. It had been summoned for punishment.

And Draco had come willingly.

“You didn’t come here to be fixed,” she said.

He didn’t reply. He didn’t have to.

The runes trembled. Barely. Like a breath caught between wanting and warning. The magic made space for her. As if it understood she wasn’t there to break the spell. Only to bear it with him.

She looked at him, standing in the center like someone burdened by a fate he never chose. Not expecting to be saved, only to be left alone with the weight of it. And she didn’t reach for him. She didn’t promise light. She simply stayed.

“I’m not here to pull you out,” she murmured. “But I’ll stay, as long as it takes for you to remember how to breathe.” He turned his head at that — not fully, just enough for her to know he heard it.

“I’m not asking to be saved,” he said.

“No,” she answered. “But maybe you need someone who doesn’t look away.”

The runes fell still, as if holding their breath.

The room didn’t brighten. But it softened.

Not healed. Not changed. Just witnessed.

And sometimes, that was enough.
